There are few things better than walking on a floor covered in lush carpeting. With all the colors and styles that they come in, there is one for every taste and budget. Before you begin shopping for carpet, there are a few tips to follow, so that you can get the best one for you.

Carpets can be expensive, but it's important to look for one with the best quality in your price range. Pay close attention to the thickness of the fibers and how close together they are. The thicker and closer together the fibers are, the better the quality. The density of the carpet is an excellent indication of the quality of the carpet, so don't hesitate to touch it since this will help you make that determination. See if the mesh is can be felt by touch or seen upon a close examination. The less mesh that is apparent, the higher the carpet quality. Another thing to look for is the twist levels in a one inch length of the fiber. Choose the one that has the most twists, as this is another indicator of good quality.

Most carpets are made from synthetic fibers such as polyester, olefin or nylon. The strongest of these synthetic fibers are those made of nylon but remember that just because it's strong, it can still become worn. Carpets are subject to spills and soils that can stain it. When buying your carpet, make sure that it has been treated with a stain resistant treatment, so that stains can easily be removed.

There are different cuts of carpet. It's the cut of the carpet that determines how it looks. One such cut, called Frieze wears well and has a pile that is twisted and nubby. Another style of cut is the Saxony. Its piles have an irregular cut and has nice casual look, suitable for most rooms. The carpets with a plush cut are for rooms with a formal look. They have even color and a velvet look to them.

Another important consideration is the carpet pad. This is no place to skimp. The carpet pad adds cushioning to your carpet and lessens noise. They come in various thickness levels and not all pads are the same. A thick pad will make the carpet you purchase seem even more expensive by adding extra cushioning to your carpet, so choose well. The higher the quality, the longer it will last.

Consider the color of the carpet that you are choosing. Don't just pick a color that matches a room because there may come a time that you want to repaint it a different color. The same applies to furniture. You might spend a lot of money on a carpet that matches your furniture and then decide to change the furniture. Consider neutral colors that will match whatever room changes that you make.
