If you think about it most adults as well as kids will want a bathroom that is relaxing and not so energetic. As a young adult that is how I want my bathroom to be just laid back and easy going. After coming home from a long day of work it is a good chance that you just want to chill in your bed or take a nice bath. So to be able to relax in your bed or bath you are going to need the right bed and bath accessories.

It doesn't matter which bath accessories you may already have you are going to want the ones that make you feel relax and the ones that help you do just that. Everyone is different and is going to want something that is different from everyone else's bathroom or bed. Someone might want a purple theme and someone else might want there bathroom theme to be of blue water.

As for younger and older people of today the sailboat theme has come into many bathrooms of many homes. This theme has been around for a long time and doesn't look like it is going anywhere any time soon. Today the sailboat theme will come with a tooth brush rack, towels, hand towels, waste basket, and may other things as well as a toy sailboat. As with all this toy sailboat theme talk all the younger kids will love this theme because it is just a neutral theme. It can be used at any age and doesn't get old.

The sailboat bath accessories and themes are not just for kids. This is an all time favorite so you might be surprised by seeing this theme and its accessories in a young adult's bathroom. I think the main reason why people still use the sailboat theme is because it is simple and has been around for a long time.

Bath accessories will have a good effect on a lot of people. A good theme is just good for the bathroom as it will add flavor and creativeness. Maybe you want a toy sailboat theme because it makes you think about your childhood even though I never had a toy sailboat theme some other people might enjoy having it. Many of the people that you may find to like the toy sailboat theme may be young adult females or maybe even males and they tend to like this theme because it is simple and easy to do. A good reason why people will continue to get this theme and keep it is because it is so easy and it probably brings back childhood memoires. So if you like the toy sailboat theme you should go out and get started on it. If you can't find a sailboat theme you like at the mall or wherever you go you can always find it or something like it online on many websites.

Possibly one of the key elements involved in houseplants health and success is an element taken for granted. All soil or potting mediums are not created equal. Houseplants will grow and live more prolonged lives if you select a true potting media and not a compost based soil mixture.

Composts are best used as organic amendments for outdoor soils. A good potting medium should stay porous and allow watering and fertilizing at an even and consistent rate.

Houseplants receive much less sunlight than outdoor plants, so plants that thrive in full or partial shade will be good choices. Try to select plants that develop tighter root systems and produce a smaller tighter foliage that is more easily accommodated by the space you will be allowing for it.

Remember that you must begin with fresh healthy plants. It will not be productive to bring in weak, deteriorated plants from your outdoor garden.

Inspect your plant for evidence of insect damage. Not only will this discourage rapid growth, but you may in fact be introducing unseen pests to your established plants. Wilted and yellowed leaves may be a sign of moulds and mildews or might simply reflect a weakened plant due to insufficient minerals.

Select pots that are large enough for the current root system and allow for some growth over the winter months. They should have drainage holes in the bottom. Many plants are drowned by excessive watering that is not allowed to drain away. Place a small dish underneath to capture any excess water that drains out.

When planting into the new container, don't be afraid to prune the foliage fairly aggressively. You need all available resources to be available to the root system. This is the base for survival. A good sound, well developed root system will be the key to establishing full foliage and flowering after the plant becomes well established.

Initially you may want to place the plant where it will receive maximum sunlight similar to it's original outdoor environment. You can then slowly move it into areas of less light if required.

Try to minimize exposure to cool window drafts and windowsills. Humidity levels can depleted during winter. If your heating system is not equipped with a dehumidifier, you may find occasional misting of the plant to be beneficial.

Locate plants to provide correct light and temperature exposures. Humidity can be maintained by adding a power humidifier to your furnace or placing a portable humidifier near the houseplants.

Keep in mind that if you place plants on a very cold windowsill that the cold will be transmitted into the plant's soil and will inhibit growth. A bench or small table with made from wood or materials that have a lesser tendency to transmit cold will allow the plant potting soil to stay warmer.

Water houseplants thoroughly so soil is saturated. Immediately remove water that accumulates in the drain tray as it would promote a build up of water soluble salts through evaporation.

It is best to let most houseplants become a bit dry before watering again. This slows plant growth during winter months, reduces plants' needs and compensates for lower humidity.

We are about sharing houseplant care basics for the amateur gardener.

If you have been considering changing the window treatments ion your home, then you should definitely look into the growing popularity of wood blinds. These blinds come in a great many styles and materials, and are precisely suited to fit any decor. When you add wood blinds to your home, it says to the world that you have exquisite style and taste. But how does one go about choosing just the right style of blinds for their home?

Well, that all depends of which room of the house they are being pot into. You can have a different style of wood blinds in each room of your home, and still be at the height of interior fashion. Take a look at this room by room guide which our interior design experts have put together for you, in an effort to help make the process of choosing wood blinds for your home that much easier.

Horizontal Blinds

Horizontal wood blinds are beautiful window treatments that are designed to look exactly like Venetian blinds, but made with wooden slats. These blinds are excellent in rooms where more light is preferable, such as in the kitchen and bathroom. If you are choosing horizontal wood blinds for your kitchen or bathroom, it is important that you choose blinds that have been specially treated to withstand the mold and mildew that can occur on untreated blinds due to the high levels of moisture in these rooms. There are several different typos of wood used in horizontal blinds, but the most popular are red cedar, and white oak or pine.

Vertical Blinds

Vertical wood blinds are the perfect choice for a room that should be well-lit, such as a living room, or dining room. These blinds can be easily pulled to the side of the window, to allow full sunlight in; and easily closed tight at night for the utmost in privacy. Vertical wood blinds, or hanging blinds as they are also known, are also quite excellent for offices as they allow the most light through the window, when pulled off to the side.

Roman Shades

For bedrooms and nurseries, where the ability to darken a room is important, the Roman Shade style of wood blinds is preferred. These wood blinds cover the entire window when down, and are opaque so as to provide the most light blockage. These blinds are rather stylish when raised, as well; as they fold accordion-style, slats together.

Bamboo Shades

If you are looking for privacy, but still want to let the light in, then bamboo shades are just the thing. These wood blinds are made with only the finest bamboo, and roll as they are raised. When down, these wood blinds are thin enough to still allow plenty of light to enter a room; yet closely enough woven to provide the utmost in privacy. If you prefer to have curtains on your windows for darkness, these bamboo shades are excellent window treatments for bedrooms; although, we do not recommend them for nurseries.

Slider Panels

For the utmost in room darkening, try slider panels for rooms such as media rooms. These wood blinds come in a variety of darker wood, including dark walnut bamboo; and are the ideal treatment for windows in rooms with floor to ceiling windows and sliding glass doors. Backed with an opaque fabric for maximum density, sliding wood blinds can be used not only as window treatments; but can also be installed to divide rooms, or to create closure on rooms with extra-wide door-less entrances.

As you can see, there are a great many different styles of wood blinds that you can choose from, in a variety of different materials. Choose a wood that matches your furniture, and add instant elegance to any room with wood blinds.

If we were to talk about kid's bath accessories the first thing that will come into your head as you think about is cartoon themes. So as you look and think you will see bright colorful themes as that is the theme for a kid since they are so hyper and energetic.

A lot of the time it will be harder to get a kid to take a bath then to tell him to go play. Most of them are probably thinking that they would rather play all day then take a bath in the morning since they are just going to get dirty again. This of course does not apply to all kids as some love to take baths this is only a few as others will want to go run and play. One way that you can get them to take baths more is to have them play in the bath. This is why having kids bath accessories is good so they can play and be entertained in the bath instead of taking the same old bath every day. They will be able to be bathed easier and still be able to have fun and play without making a fuss. I have witnessed this first hand with my nephew it is easier to give him a bath with toys and stuff rather then making him just take a regular boring bath. Usually if he didn't have anything to play with or look at his bathing time would be a nightmare. All you need to do is ask your kids what they like and they will tell you. You may discover that they want something that is so easy to do and that is cheap at the same time. You can always find something that is cheap and that your kid will like.

You can usually find anything that your kid will want through websites. You can just go to Google and type in kid's bath themes and so many different websites will come up that you won't know which ones to look at. You can find any theme that your kid wants and you can usually find it for a really good bargain. Every kid's bath theme will come with something like a toothbrush holder, towel racks, shower curtains, hand towels there are just a number of things that you will love about your kids themes and they will like it too. All the different kids themes are going to be an attention grabber whether it is dinosaurs or sponge bob it will always grab the attention of whoever enters the kids bathroom.

It is always a good idea to collect a lot of different kid's accessories since they will probably want something different in a month or so. You are probably thinking my kid does not care the way their bathroom looks well that is wrong because that is where they play at night in their bath. So you might want to re think and make your kid happy.

Even though you probably love your dog they may not love you during their bath time. Most dog owners will probably have to drag their dogs into the bath but after you read and find out more about bathing then maybe it won't be such a hard time. After reading this you shouldn't have to fight your dog to take a bath.

After you have bought some dog bath accessories then you probably will be looking forward to bathing and using those accessories on your dog. When you have things to help you bath your dog it will be a lot easier then when you didn't have any bathing tools. After all your dog is your best friend so shouldn't they get the luxury they need?

When you are bathing your dog inside the house it is always good to have or own a booster tub so it can make it easier on you so you don't have to reach down and strain to bath the dog. It is also made so the dog can get in and out easier then a regular tub at home. You will not have to hold onto the dog and most likely will not get wet when getting the dog out of the booster tub. Another great feature on this tub is it has shampoo and conditioner dispensers so you don't have to worry about reaching for your bathing needs. You won't have to buy extra dispensers now you have them on the tub. Perhaps you want to bath your dog outside then you need a sprayer so you can just bath them down with the shampoo really good then just rinse them off with the sprayer. Another thing you may want to prevent the tub from moving around is a mat to put underneath so it doesn't slide around when you are using the tub.

Maybe your dog doesn't like a good bath well then you will have to buy a bathing harness so they don't try and run out and get your house wet. This harness will keep your dog in place so you don't have to hold them while you try to bath them. You just need to connect it all together to the dog and then start bathing.

Instead of just using your hand or just any old towel you can get a special mitt that you can wear so you can really scrub your dog down and give them the bath that they need even if they don't want it.

A good towel is another good thing to have after bathing your dog you want a towel that will soak up a good part of the water from the dog coat so they don't go dripping wet all around your house. You want a towel that is made from micro fibers so it will pull more water away from the coat drying your pet faster then a cotton towel. These are just a few tips to help you bath your dog easier then the normal way most people will bath their dogs.

Moving into a new home or remodeling means thinking about cabinet hardware and cabinet hardware products. And, it also means thinking about the most important house hardware of all - Locks. Door hardware is your home's protection against intruders.

Choosing the Right Hardware

These days, a deadbolt is essential for keeping your home secure. Regular door locks that function inside the knob just can't guarantee the protection you need. They can be easily broken by force. The thick throw bolt of a deadbolt is nearly impossible to break through.

There are two kinds of deadbolts; single cylinder and double cylinder. The difference is that single cylinder deadbolts have a knob or thumb turn on the inside, with a key only on the outside. With a double cylinder, you need a key for both sides.

If you are getting a deadbolt for an exterior door, it is usually best to get the single cylinder variety. This is a safety issue. If there were an emergency inside the house, such as a fire, the occupants could risk being trapped inside or slowed down by having to use a key. A single cylinder and a regular doorknob locks will offer enough protection to the house, and also allow anyone inside to get out.

The only exception to this is a door with windows. If there is glass on the door, it would be easy for an intruder to simply break the glass and reach through to the deadbolt's knob. It is usually best to consider safety first and go with the single cylinder, but if your house has inner and outer front doors, you can use both.

Don't Forget the Windows

You might wonder, what's the point of installing window locks? After all, if a burglar wants to get in, they will simply smash the glass. This is true, in Hollywood. But actually, most burglars are opportunists. They want to break into a house with the least amount of bother, and it would be much better to slip in through a window than to break one.

You should definitely have window locks, and make sure that each one, downstairs and up no matter how small, is covered. Even the tiny one in the bathroom should be secured. An experienced burglar can slip through just about anything, and slip right back out again with your stuff.

Whether to use key or thumb turn locks is the same issue we dealt with earlier. If the burglar chooses to break the glass, they can simply turn the thumb knob; if you use a key mechanism instead, they would have to continue breaking out glass and risk getting cut up coming in.

Even a cheap window lock will work wonders in protecting your house from intruders. Make sure it is one that is visible from outside. Most burglars would rather move on to another house than deal with any kind of difficulty getting in.

Keep in mind that locks work not only to keep your house safe, but as a deterrent for would-be burglars. In the same way that security guards deter theft by just being there, having good, solid, visible locks on your doors and windows will keep most burglars looking for an easier house.

Another thing to remember is that you can never have too much home security. It is a good idea to keep a safe, in addition to the other safety precautions you place in your home.

Securing your home is always a high priority. In addition to high tech security systems, simple door hardware like deadbolts can help secure your family and property. Visit CKI Locks today for your lock options. http://www.ckilock.com

It is all too easy for an accidental spark to start a blaze. And, as the nation has recently seen, weather can prolong and expand the reach of the flames. However, using fire resistant foam as insulation in your home or office offers some defense against smaller blazes.

Foam insulation spray offers another means of insulating a building. It is cost effective in the energy output it saves you. It is also greener than other insulating materials and flame resistant.

Foam is effective as a sealant because it expands to fill every crevice and empty space, even between joists and joints. In this way, the insulator keeps out air, dust, and pests.

As part of a complete fire protection system, its sealing feature is also a great benefit. With the foam, you don't have to worry about air pockets within the material where combustibles can collect or cause other hazardous problems.

You also don't have to worry about the flames getting into unfilled pockets to either burn your building from the inside out or become hotbeds should a fire occur. Additionally, the spray insulation keeps air out, prevents more air from reaching a blaze or causing dangerous backdrafts.

One of the best features about fire resistant insulation is that the material itself doesn't burn. Even if fire somehow gets into the insulation, the foam doesn't catch fire. Admittedly, after prolonged exposure to flames, the surface shows charring, but the flames never take hold. Considering the cost of rampant fire damage, charring is an acceptable and more affordable trade off.

In trial tests, investigators built three sample crawl spaces. This trial was conducted to compare the performances of one type of insulator to an untreated "calibration" construction. This first was used for a calibration test. The other two were treated with one type of a spray in insulation product. Each crawl space was tested to a "failure time" in which the flames consumed the plywood or could no longer be sustained.

The calibration deck exhibited steady flames from the front after 6 minutes of exposure to a flame source placed inside the construct. After 9:30 minutes, the blaze penetrated the plywood.

The second and third tests reflected similar results, which surpassed the results of industry standard tests. Specifically, after 1:40 minutes, the controlled blaze ate into the insulation surface, but there was no ignition. After 3:40 minutes, there was sporadic ignition of the foam's surface. Ignition stopped after 8:30 minutes. In nearly ten minutes of exposure, there was no burn through of the test material nor the plywood above it.

The investigators allowed the flame to burn until the test collapsed, a period of nearly twenty minutes. The test was finally ended after 26 minutes.

There was charring over the entire insulating surface, and some loss of material where the flames touched the surface, but the plywood was completely intact as was the majority of the spray in material.

Other products don't last nearly as long in tests. Clearly, fire resistant insulation is an effective way to protect your building. The benefits are clear from the tests.

Choosing an environmentally friendly, easy to install and flame resistant product would be a great protection. Easy installation of foam insulation spray, allows you to spray it into a new or existing building. Foam systems for fire protection and insulation are a smart and efficient choice for any building.

Fire hazards are a concern for any building owner. Creating a safe structure is a primary consideration. Employing fire resistant insulation is a smart choice. Visit Apex Foam Industries to see how their products can serve your needs. http://www.apexfoam.com

Buying a house is exciting and stressful at the same time. It's a wonderful step forward in life and the attainment of a dream. Even so, for some, it can also be a terrible headache. Some things can't be helped. Real estate is complicated and there's nothing simple about purchasing a house. After the deal is closed, though, you still have to move.

Real estate is tricky as well as exhilarating. Once the sale is finished, it's easy to think everything's done. The only trouble is that you have to move into your new place. It can seem like a battle, but these tips can help make moving much easier. With the "heavy lifting" handled, you can focus on your new home.

Packing and Unpacking - The Never Ending Task

Packing always seems to take forever, and it often takes much longer than you'd like. The reason is because most of us don't know how to pack. It's more than just putting things in boxes. Organized packing requires time and patience.

Here are a few tips you can use to organize your relocation. Those printed lists on the boxes that indicate the type of room (kitchen, dining room, living room, etc.) are not just decoration. Use them - it makes life simpler.

If you can pack similar items or rooms together, it will make unpacking easier. And be specific with your packing - give a more details than just kitchen or bedroom. The more you organize as you pack, the easier it will be to unpack. Even putting things in the same corner of a room together can cut unpacking time in half.

Separate your clothes into the ones you'll be using and the ones you'll be storing. There's nothing wrong with using sturdy garbage bags for clothes. Just don't forget there are clothes in them.

Lighten the Load

Moving heavy, bulky stuff is half the headache. The more of your bulky house wares you can get rid of early, the easier you'll have it. It may seem like a waste to get rid of a usable couch, but often, moving into a new home means getting new furniture to match. Unless it has deep sentimental value, get rid of it. It will lower the workload and cost of moving considerably.

For stuff in good repair but in the way, try selling it. Listing in the paper and online can be helpful. Get your "liquidation" sale started well in advance of moving and live without the items if you have to. That way, you can lower the price or start giving things away as you get closer to moving.

If you can't get rid of it, there's always the consignment or donation shops, and they'll usually do pick ups. If you can't donate it, then dispose of it.

Hire Out

By the time you've bought your first home, you and your friends have gone past the days of "moving parties." The timing isn't right, or the vehicles aren't available or whatever. Most people simply break down and hire movers. In the end, you have more control over time and pace of the move.

Getting a mover is a convenient option, but you still have to be ready when they come. Everything has to be packed and ready before they arrive. This also requires some organizing. If you hire movers, start packing early. Make lists and try to get everything done way ahead of time. That way, you'll have plenty of time to forget and remember again all the little details.

If all goes well, you'll be ready to roll hours before the movers arrive. And packing will be one less worry. Remember: it's never too early to start thinking about the actual move.

In some cases, you'll find you're just too busy. A relocation service comes in handy here. They'll help you organize and expedite your move, keeping your headaches and hassles to a minimum. Often times, a relocation service can put you in contact with a moving company, storage facilities and all the other contacts you'll need to make a smooth transition. Getting help when you need it is always a smart choice. Hiring a relocation service can make your life easier.

Moving is its own job when you get a new home. In Hendersonville, real estate concerns don't have to be a headache. Sometimes, you just need a little help. The professionals at Preferred Real Estate can assist with your relocation needs. http://www.preferredrealestatecenter.com

Before any garden problem can be corrected, or plant damage prevented or controlled, it is necessary to know the cause. Sometimes this is very evident, but more often it is not. In the latter case, expert help is needed which can be had from county agents of your state agricultural service, some garden centers, botanical gardens and professional horticulturists.

Unfortunately, all too few local salesmen handling pest control materials are trained diagnosticians, or even experienced gardeners. In any case, no one can prescribe a cure without seeing the damaged plant, the pest that causes it or, in some cases, without having a soil analysis.

The Causes of Trouble

Before blaming an insect pest or disease, check the following possible causes, one or more of which may be to blame.

The soil. Has it been properly prepared by adding at least 5 per cent organic matter? Has sufficient fertilizer been applied to maintain adequate growth? If not, growth may be stunted. Has too much fertilizer been used so that the roots have been damaged? This may produce scorched edges on leaves, and in more severe cases the plants wilt and die.

Putting fertilizer in the bottom of a hole without thoroughly mixing it with the soil before setting in the plant is a common cause of damage. Applying more fertilizer than recommended on the package may injure plants. Letting fertilizer stay on the foliage may burn it. Always wash or shake off any fertilizer that falls on the foliage.

Sunlight is necessary for plant growth. Some plants require all-day sun to thrive. Without it they may not bloom or grow as well as they should. On the other hand, some plants cannot stand full sun and must be given protection, and they, along with shade-tolerant plants, are best used in shade plantings.

Climate. All too often we try to grow plants that are not adapted to our climate and although they may survive a few years, in less congenial seasons they may be damaged. For example, the evergreen magnolia of the South is being grown in many places in the North where it is never likely to live to a ripe old age. Many azaleas now being shipped from the South to northern gardens may also prove to be tender.

Temperature is often a limiting factor. Low winter temperatures will damage or kill plants that are not completely hardy. This damage may not be apparent until early summer, as is often the case with roses and broad-leaved evergreens. Sudden drops in temperature, especially in the fall before plants are sufficiently hardened, may damage them. High summer temperatures will restrict growth of some plants, whereas cold summers will limit the growth of more tropical plants, many annual flowers, and such vegetables as corn, melons, squash and tomatoes.

Wind is sometimes a limiting factor. Broadleaf evergreens and some needled evergreens (hemlocks) may be so dried by wind that the leaves scorch. The corners of a house, the narrow place between buildings, wind-exposed hilltops and open country are likely places for wind problems. Wind hitting a building and bouncing back may cause more damage than normal. All wind damage is usually worse on young plants before they have become well established.

Chemicals. Over-doses of chemicals used in the control of insects and diseases may damage the foliage. When the temperature is over 85 degrees, many dusts and sprays will burn even when used at the recommended strengths. Sulfur is especially dangerous to plants when the temperature is over 85 degrees F.

Another unexpected source of trouble is from careless use of weed control chemicals. Many of these are difficult to remove from the sprayer, so a separate sprayer is advisable. The drift of herbicide dust or spray onto particularly sensitive plants may do more harm to them than to the weeds themselves.

Pay attention to these details and you will have a thriving garden.

Many developers are increasingly choosing to construct their buildings out of metal for various reasons. Metal buildings are stronger and less vulnerable to the ravages of time and weather. Because metal is inorganic, the owner does not have to worry about the structural supports of the building being damaged by termites, mold, rot, or fungi.

Using metal to construct the building also lessens the risk that the building will become warped during construction, allowing the building to be built with right angles and ensuring that all of the windows and doors in the building will open and close properly for the life of the building. One feature that has many individuals clamoring for a metal building is the building's ability to withstand the impact of heat.

A metal building is better able to withstand the intense heat of a fire or explosion better than many other types of building materials. This is because the metal has a burning or melting point that is much higher than building materials such as wood. It is also an inorganic substance, so the fire cannot feed off of the metal like it would be able to off of organic building materials. It is very difficult for a fire to reach the temperatures needed to severely damage or destroy the structural supports of a metal building to the point where the building would collapse. On the other hand, buildings made out of wood or other organic materials actually feed a fire and help it to race through the structure, destroying everything in its path.

Metal buildings typically use a highly heat resistant metal such as steel for the building frame, structural supports, interior columns, and included in the slabs used to form the building for added support. This makes the most vital areas of the building extremely heat resistant and lessens the possibility that the structural stability of the building will fail in the event of a fire. In fact, a typical building fire would not generate nearly enough heat for the structural features of the building to be greatly damaged in any way, even though the walls and furnishings of the building may be completely destroyed. There are very few things that can damage a metal building to the point of structural failure.

Many individuals choose to construct buildings out of metal because it is very rare that the entire building will need to be replaced because of damage. Walls and furnishings can be replaced easily and usually within a matter of weeks, but individuals that have constructed a metal building typically will not have to worry about replacing the entire building due to some unforeseen event. Metal buildings not only have the ability to withstand the heat of a fire, but can also withstand small explosions, earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and tornados.

All of these natural and man-made disasters can cause a great deal of damage to the building and its contents, but the building will not be destroyed. In many cases, it is mainly the metal buildings that are left standing after a disaster.

Homeowners across the country will undoubtedly have woken in recent mornings and noticed the autumnal chill in the air.

But with winter fast approaching, temperatures are set to drop significantly and property owners would be well advised to ensure their homes are ready for the onslaught. Insurer Legal & General has stated that, with the average property now worth in excess of 230,000 pounds, it makes sense for owners to ensure that houses are kept in good condition.

Temperatures this winter are likely to fall below those seen in 2006, according to the latest predictions from the Met Office, while December is also historically the wettest month of the year. Both variables can have an impact on the degree to which homes can make it through the winter months unscathed. However, regular maintenance, perhaps using cheap loans to fund repairs, can avoid more significant costs at a later date.

Crucially, homeowners planning to rely on their home insurance to fund any repairs to their house should be warned that they might not receive the payout they were expecting. Legal & General states that, while such policies may cover homes for damage ensuing from a burst pipe or poor conditions taking their toll on the roof, there is an obligation for owners to keep their home in a reasonable state of repair. Failing to do so could potentially invalidate a policy when it comes to the crunch - so borrowing cheap loans as a means of shoring up the winter defences could pay off in the long run.

Elaine Parkes, head of technical services at Legal & General's general insurance business said: "Household insurance is designed to provide peace of mind to homeowners so they know that they have cover in place should their property be hit by 'the ravages of winter' or severe weather. However, homeowners need to take reasonable steps to safeguard their property and contents against loss or damage. This includes ensuring that their property is maintained in a good condition, so fixing any loose tiles on a roof or making sure flood prevention measures are in place, if appropriate."

Legal & General has published a homeowner checklist designed to ensure that the house is in good working order and likely to comply with insurance policy strictures. When freezing conditions are expected, making sure that loft insulation is in place and that pipes are fully lagged will help to prevent burst pipes - both of which improvements could be funded by means of cheap loans.
Meanwhile, in preparation for storms homeowners should repair loose roof tiles and check whether trees near or overhanging the house are capable of surviving the weather undamaged.

Halifax has recently provided similar advice, stating that "prevention is certainly better than cure" in terms of maintaining a property. The firm adds ensuring that gutters are clear and making sure external lighting fixtures are firmly in place to the list of vital undertakings before the house is wracked by winter weather.

Meanwhile, those property owners who are resting on their laurels having ensured that their property is likely to stay in one piece over the winter might consider boosting its value in other ways. Recent research conducted by Saga Home Insurance revealed that ever higher numbers of households are investigating improving their property's value by undertaking renovation work, for instance using a secured loan to create a more modern kitchen or invest in a chic new bathroom suite.

As the winter months approach now could be a good time for many Britons to consider carrying out improvement work in their garden, an industry expert has stated.

According to Ceri Thomas, editor of Gardening Which?, the now unpredictable weather could mean that many homeowners could find themselves cutting their lawn "in the middle of December". Consequently, she reported that such conditions may provide an ideal opportunity for people to get out into their gardens to prepare them for the colder months. The gardening expert claimed that "quite a lot of plants that do look good now", suggesting that the likes of hardy cyclamen, dogwoods with colourful bark and witch hazel make for attractive winter decorations.

In addition, she reported that filling a container with flowers such as violas and pansies can also bring colour to gardens, with a competitively-priced homeowner loan one possible way of meeting the cost of such property improvements. However, for those plants which may not survive the winter period, for example pelagoniums and fuschias, consumers were advised to wrap them up in items such as bubblewrap plastic or a fleece to help avoid the financial difficulties that replace such items can entail should people have to repurchase them if they do not survive colder months.

She said: "Really it's a time of year when things aren't growing particularly much, so you can be thinking about whether the layout of the garden is working ... or whether there is anything you can do to improve things, [or] looking back at any notes you made over the summer or photos you took."

Ms Thomas also pointed out that there are a "lot of catalogues out at the moment" documenting the various seeds and plants which are available for next spring and summer. However, she claimed that budding Alan Titchmarshes and Charlie Dimmocks wanting specific items should look to place their orders for such products immediately before they have sold out.

In addition, the Gardening Which? editor reported that gardeners should look to move equipment such as lawnmowers and secateurs inside from the outdoors environment as the nights become colder. Winter, she claimed, is an ideal time to clean and sharpen the blades on such items ahead of the following spring. However, should they find that their gardening tools are in need of replacement, then applying for a loan could be one way in which to meet such expenses effectively.

Taking the time to carry out garden improvements, whether this is funded through a homeowner loan or by other means, can not only make consumers' homes look more attractive but also boost their value. In turn, property owners could also have access to larger secured loans should they wish to wish to withdraw the equity that their house has built up. Earlier this year, research conducted by Halifax Estate Agents revealed that elements such as mature shrubs and trees set inside a paved area such as a patio can help to increase the cost of a property should it go up for sale. The study also revealed that 58 per cent of consumers see flagged patios as an attractive garden feature, while just over a third (37 per cent) are looking to have decking laid out.

Solar power has many more uses around your home than just solar heating. The technology has made significant advances and you can now cook, heat your pool and even refrigerate your groceries using energy from the sun. However, your solar home may have issues that you may be unaware of. In this article, we'll talk about the economic and environmental benefits and drawbacks of using solar power.

The biggest benefit of solar energy is that the fuel is free and the source is unlimited. There is little to no maintenance required with solar panels because there are no moving parts. In fact, most manufacturers include warranties on their products that are good for up to twenty-five years. In the event of a blackout, solar power is not affected. That means that during extreme storms, your family can still enjoy all the comforts of your solar home.

Environmentally speaking, the use of solar energy produces no emissions because there is no burning of fossil fuels. Solar energy prices are steadily declining and as new technologies emerge, the costs of solar systems will continue to decrease.

It is a fact that solar power home kits have become more commonplace in recent years, however, these kits can be dangerous. As the instructions in these kits are laid out in what seems to be easy-to-follow steps, some people forget the fact that they are working with electricity. To be on the safe side, purchasers of solar home power kits should read the instructions thoroughly.

It is recommended that you hire a professional installer or electrician instead of installing the kit yourself. Professionals have received more training, so they are much more capable of handling the risks that come with using solar power home kits.

It is also worth bearing in mind that although solar electricity is a clean source of power, eventual disposal of the cells is environmentally unfriendly! It is known that most solar cells that are used to create a solar home contain the highly toxic substance known as cadmium. Extreme care should be taken as it can cause serious environmental damage if it's not disposed of properly.

The supply of sunlight should also be taken into account as with solar power it is imperative. Generally most places do have adequate light to operate with solar panels, but there are areas in the extreme north and south that experience only darkness for up to a month a year.

While solar power is a huge step forward in reducing our dependency on fossil fuels, there are some drawbacks. Like with any investment, consumers should thoroughly research their options and consult professionals. Solar energy is a rapidly advancing technology, so it's reasonable to assume that the issue of cadmium contamination will be addressed. It's important to remember that building a solar home is not just a financial investment, but an investment into the future of a clean planet that will sustain generations to come.

When most of us think of the classic braided rug, we think of various weaves made up of yarns and fabrics. Woolen yarns and cloth scraps were the materials most widely used by early rug weavers. While it is true that rag braids and yarn weaves are the most popular and most available, there are beautiful braided rugs that are made from a wide variety of plant based materials.

In no small part, the environmental movement has spurred the use of renewable materials in many aspects of our lives. The tradition of braided rugs started out using left over materials such as scraps of cloth. The modern use of renewable materials can be seen everywhere. Flooring made from renewable materials such as bamboo and cork is gaining in popularity. Bamboo, hemp and jute fibers are used in a variety of fabric blends and you can find beautiful woven and braided rugs made from these versatile materials.

One material that is widely used for braided rugs is jute. Jute fiber has been used for thousands of years for everything from rope and twine to paper and other commercial uses such as backing for carpet. Unlike synthetic materials, jute has a tremendous advantage since it is completely biodegradable. When it is processed in various ways, jute can be fashioned into fabrics and yarns that can then be and woven into beautiful braided rugs.

Jute can be dyed and colored in several ways, including the use of vegetable and other types of plant based dyes. When dyed properly, jute will retain the color quite well. It is color fast, meaning the color will not fade with use. Jute can be treated with certain chemicals and compounds that can improve qualities such as softness and workability. This is important when jute is used in yarn applications. To make yarns, jute is often blended with cotton, wool or other fabrics adding strength and durability.

Like other widely used plant fibers like bamboo and hemp, jute is a renewable fiber source that grows prolifically without the need for chemical fertilizers, herbicides and insecticides. Including the fibrous inner material of the jute stalk that is used to produce the fiber, virtually all of the jute plant is used. Even the leaves are used as a food source.

Bamboo is another renewable plant fiber source that is being used more and more as a fabric. Bamboo is fast growing and requires very little in the way of cultivation. Bamboo has several very interesting properties that make it an excellent fabric. Bamboo contains a long lasting, natural antimicrobial compound. Bamboo fiber retains this antimicrobial property throughout the life of the fabric, even after repeated cleanings.

Like jute, bamboo has a very high tensile strength so the fabric has good wear properties. Bamboo fabrics are lightweight making it an excellent choice for clothing, from shirts and pants to socks. Because it has a very high absorbency rate, bamboo even makes for soft and absorbent bath towels. Quality bamboo fabric is so soft that it has been compared to cashmere wool. Bamboo fabrics can be dyed and can be bleached using processes that are environmentally friendly.

No wonder that bamboo fabric is being used to produced quality braided area rugs. Easy to clean, and with its antibacterial properties, bamboo and bamboo blends make an excellent choice for making unique braided rugs.

Last but certainly least is the use of hemp fabric in crafting of braided rugs. Like jute and bamboo, hemp can be cultivated with little work and without using harmful chemicals. Strong and versatile, hemp fiber can be made into a variety textile products including braided rugs.

Mitch Endick is a short article writer for the popular braided rug web site: http://www.braidedrugsale.com. He provides informative advice on purchasing quality braided rugs.

In todays world with climate issues very much at the forefront of international debate it is hard for us not to take notice. Skin Cancer has risen in the UK and for most it is caused from UV (ultraviolet) rays from the sun. The UK alone have 75,000 diagnosed new cases and 2,300 die each year, not an uplifting statistic but very real, which is why we must include shading in our gardens when planning outdoor entertainment and rest areas, recreational activities and play areas for our children.

At the moment there are plenty of inexpensive shading products on the market but there are not many that can shade recreational areas like swimming pools, hot tubs and tennis courts or childrens play areas as well as providing shade for patios. The only product I have seen that can shade various areas is the very versatile sail shade, which has been widely used by the Australians for many years.

These shades, when erected, look stylish and contemporary but more importantly are extremely effective at blocking out 98% of harmful rays. Also because the material used is porous, heat does not build up underneath, so you, your friends and family can enjoy a leisurely Sunday lunch out on the terrace without feeling uncomfortable in the midday heat, children can play happily in a sandpit, paddling pool or swimming pool without worrying about the sun.

The DIY shades come in two different shapes Triangle and Square, 5 different sizes and a selection of contemporary colours. These shades can also be custom made for just about any purpose, so can shade larger areas like car ports, communal gardens, playgrounds etc. making it a very useful shade in todays ever changing climate.

The DIY shades can be installed by anyone and on existing external wall(s), wooden or metal pole(s) with good quality stainless steel fixings. The DIY shades on the market at the moment are competitively priced. If, however, you are looking for something a little more individual you can opt for a more individual bespoke shade.

The only downside to these shades it that they are not classed as waterproof. They are designed to breath during extremely warm sunny days, which is why the material needs to be porous.

With contemporary styling becoming more appealing and outdoor living a must, it is good to see products that can fit within these styles without paying designer prices. I believe sail shades will be appearing in more and more households as an alternative to the more commonly used parasol and gazebo.
